Marjorie Jean Janes' Obituary
Decatur – Marjorie Jean Geiger Janes, 87, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, in her home.
Marjorie was born October 22, 1928 in Ste. Marie, IL, the daughter of John J. and Bertha (Keller) Geiger. In 1946 she graduated from Olney Township High School. When she moved to Decatur in 1949, she lived next door to her future husband, Marion Janes. After a whirlwind courtship, they married in January of 1950.
Marjorie loved to create beauty all around her. She loved sewing the latest outfits for her girls, and planting flower gardens. She truly loved porcelain china painting and participated in many seminars and art shows. She was a member of the World Organization of China Painters and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Marjorie and her husband, Marion B. Janes owned Janes Cleaners on Eldorado Street for many years.
Marjorie is survived by her four daughters: Ann Janes and partner Karen Rousey of Normal, IL, Kaye McGann and husband David of Denver, CO, Amy Conway and husband Bruce of Champaign, IL and Karen Prince and husband David of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren: Christopher Davis, Erik Davis, Emma Prince and Abby Prince; great-grandchildren: Christina Davis and Kaliyah Davis. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Rubsam of Newton, IL and brother, James Geiger of Alexandria, LA; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home; vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be 10 am Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; Rev. Richard Weltin, celebrant. Burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities of Decatur, 247 W. Prairie Ave., Decatur, IL 62523.
