Mark Gerald Neisslie's Obituary
Mark Gerald Neisslie, 67, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away June 1, 2024, in his home.
Mark was born in Decatur on February 22, 1957, the son of Gerald and Jeannine (Wheeler) Neisslie. He married Shanda Grace in Decatur. Mark was a machinist for Mueller Company, a position he held for 44 years. When he wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed playing sports. As a young man, he was a star athlete in both football and baseball, and he was scouted by pro baseball teams. Later his favorite sport was golf, and he enjoyed the chance to play some rounds whenever he could. He was a handyman who used his skills to help everyone around him. He enjoyed going to concerts and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to make Shanda laugh. His greatest joy was being with his large circle of buddies, forging friendships that endured for many years. He was always there for his daughters Melissa and Amber, whether it was just to talk on the phone or a “Dad, can you...” job.
Mark is survived by his wife Shanda; daughters Melissa (Diondre) Williams and Amber (Michael) Bertoldo; stepchildren Brandi Cisco and DJ (Megan) Jurinsky; siblings Linda (Dave Barding) Neisslie, Steve (Chris) Neisslie, and Tim (Beth) Neisslie; grandchildren Malik, Makhi, Makail, Cavan, Landon, Brayden, Camden, Jayce, MJ, Neveah, and Victor; 2 nieces and 3 nephews; many extended family members; beloved dog Winston; and countless dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Special thanks are given to DMH Hospice Staff, especially Brad, and to the Cancer Care Center of Decatur, for their excellent care.
Funeral services for Mark will be held on Friday, June 7, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10am until 12pm, with a funeral service beginning at 12pm. Burial in Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
