Marshall was born June 19, 1914 in Sandwich, Illinois the son of Malford and Anna (Renwick) Horve. After graduating high school he proudly served his country in USMC where he became an expert rifleman. He was part of the color guard stationed aboard the battleship U.S.S. Texas. He met the love of his life while the Texas was at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Marshall and Louise Ruth Repak were married on February 4, 1938. They left Philadelphia and became permanent residents of Decatur almost seventy years ago. He worked as a milkman for the Sunshine Dairy, as a foundry core maker and carpenter. He retired about 1984 and he and Louise toured the U.S., Canada, and Mexico in a camper.
They both enjoyed learning new things and as a team to apply their knowledge to crafts. Marshall learned to raise sheep on his small pasture near the Sangamon River. They harvested the wool from the sheep and he built spinning wheels to make yarn. Louise spun the wool into yarn and made beautiful weavings. They demonstrated their art at fairs and exhibits throughout central Illinois and photographs often appeared in area newspapers.
He loved his family, his house, and his land in the country. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many happy hours working in his yard. He was an expert woodworker and specialized in furniture. Some of his creations include a complete four poster bedroom set, dining room set, and a number of grandfather clocks.
He leaves behind his wife of seventy-two years Louise, son; Leslie and wife Betty of Las Vegas, Nevada, daughter; Janice Roddis of Decatur, daughter-in-law; Teresa Horve of Edinburg, ten grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, sister-in-law; Ardith Horve of Decatur, and brother; Kenneth Horve of Forsyth.
His grandchildren will never forget visiting the house in the country, swimming in the pool he built and having 'Grandpa' give them ice cream bars from the dairy truck parked in his drive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son; David, grandson; Bradley, son-in-law; Rick Roddis, a brother, a sister, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to everyone at Heartland for the care and attention they gave Marshall during his stay.
