Martin John Backstein's Obituary
Martin John Backstein, 61, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, in his home with his family by his side.
Martin was born November 26, 1954, in Decatur, IL, the son of Richard E. and Grace F. (Endrizzi) Backstein Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Martin was a member of Decatur Life Foursquare Church.
Martin loved traveling to Florida, and could be seen on his boat. When not in Florida, Martin loved riding on his Kawasaki motorcyle. He was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan, and loved spending time with his dogs, Lug Nut and Puppy.
Martin leaves behind his mother, Grace F. Schroat of Decatur; daughter, Summer Backstein of Decatur; brothers, George (Cindy) Backstein of Springfield; Richard “Dick” (Cay) Backstein Jr. of Decatur; Doug (Cheryl) Backstein of Springfield; grandchildren, Dakota, Dalton, and Devin; halfsister, Sherri Backstein; one stepbrother; three stepsisters; and special friends, Mark Miller and Bonnie Dixon.
He is preceded in death by father, Richard; stepfather, Virgil Schroat; and his dog, Lug Nut.
Services to celebrate Martin’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Martin may be made to the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County. The family requests casual attire to be worn for the services.
