Marty Dial's Obituary
Martin “Marty” Craig Dial, 66, of Decatur, devoted husband, father and an amazing papaw entered into the glorious gates of heaven to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Marty was born September 30, 1948 in Decatur to Donald L. and Mary Alice (Ney) Dial. He was a 1966 graduate of Eisenhower High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University and McKendree College. He then then entered the US Navy in January 1969 and discharged in 1973. He married Toni Ann Hooge on August 16, 1970 in Decatur, just celebrated 44 years together. They had three amazing children and the pride and joy of his life three grandchildren and one arriving in February. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in 2009 as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer Specialist in Wheel Tractor Scrapers for 35 years. He was a member of GT Church and Food Pantry director and a door greeter. He was involved in small groups which he really enjoyed. The greatest joy he had was attending the Lost Bridge Great Banquet with his son in 2012 # 76, Fraternity member of Ferox and Decatur Bass Federation.
Marty’s hobbies and the things he enjoyed were time spent with his grandchildren and his family. He loved planting flowers, fishing and hunting with Chris, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Illini basketball, playing and enjoying his dogs, Annie and Lucie.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Toni Dial; three children, Christopher Dial of Decatur, Amy (Jeremy) Carter of Mt. Zion, Megan (Jason Morrison) Dial of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Lilly and Zander Morrison of Bloomington, Greyson Dial of Mt. Zion and one granddaughter on the way; two step-grandsons, Chandler and Mason Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Corey Dial.
Funeral service for Marty Dial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at GT Church in Decatur. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at GT Church. Memorials may be directed to Disabled Veterans Association or Good Samaritan Inn.
