Marvin Berry's Obituary
Marvin Roosevelt Berry, 87, of Decatur passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. he was born February 13, 1932 in Axtel, Kentucky, the son of Marvin and Edna Skaggs Berry. he married Jacqueline Fisher on August 8, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2017.
Marvin served his country for more than 30 years in the U.S. Army, fighting in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Decatur. He was a truck driver for many years, and loved golfing and fishing. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Disabled Veterans, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
He is survived by eight children, Rose (Karl) Fehr of Lake Jackson, Texas; Marvin (Rhonda) Berry of Panama City, Florida; Alan (Chandra Denison) Berry of Decatur; Kenneth (Yvetta) Berry of Evansville, Indiana; Lillis (Tommy) Call of Decatur; Royce (Connie) Berry of Panama City, Florida; Rhonda (Larry White) Berry of Decatur; and Jeffrey (Keriann) Berry of New Braunfels, Texas; 25 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Beverly McClure of Decatur; and a brother, Donald (Juanita) Berry of Decatur.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Berry; a brother; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13th at 1:30 p.m. at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
