Mary Carole Agney's Obituary
Mary “Carole” Dobson Agney, 86, of Decatur, IL, passed away unexpectedly at her home on February 25, 2026.
Carole was born on January 20, 1940, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Estol Edgar Dobson and Mary Loriene (Leathers) Dobson. A 1959 graduate of Eisenhower High School, Carole married James “Jim” Allen that same year. Together they had five children, and she was a devoted stay-at-home mother for many years.
Carole later began working part-time during the Christmas season at JCPenney, Walmart, and the Kroger bakery. She eventually dedicated 30 years of service to St. Mary’s Hospital in the Central Services Department, where she remained until her retirement.
On July 17, 1986, Carole married Robert “Bob” Agney. Together they shared a love for adventure, traveling to many places and enjoying numerous cruises. Carole was also known for her immense love for animals. Over the years, she and Bob provided a loving home to many lucky cats and dogs, all of whom were spoiled rotten.
Carole loved mini shopping trips, often just browsing. On those trips, she was always happy to relax at the hotel, often saying the hotel was her favorite part.
Carole—also known as Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Granny—was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Carole is survived by her loving husband, Bob Agney of Decatur, IL; daughters, Shawn McWilliams of Maroa, IL, and Penny Stonecipher (Scott) of Long Creek, IL; son, Troy Allen (Kim) of Niantic, IL; stepchildren, Tony Milligan (Edie) of Bath, ME, and Eric Agney of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Joel McWilliams (Jennifer) of Oakley, IL, Ashley Stubblefield (Don) of Maroa, IL, and Danel Barry (Cynthia) of Oldsmar, FL; step-grandchildren Cameron, Kyle, and Josie; great-grandchildren Katlin, Dylan, Chloe, Dezi, Malyah, Aidan, Nicole, Camron, Chance, Cabela, Gavin, Caleb, Zoey, Eli, Asher, and Aimee; and great-great-grandchildren Za’Ryan, Emmerysyn, Elias, Reece, Sonni, Mayva, Parker, Knox, and Wrenley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, baby Joel Allen and Jeffrey Allen; son-in-law, Terry McWilliams; grandson, Zackary Emert; brother, Robert Latch; and sisters, Virginia Woijeck and Eileen Farnsworth.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Macon County Animal Shelter or directly to the family.
