Mary J. Corey's Obituary
Mary J. Corey, 96, passed away at 10:24 am Sunday, December 18, 2016 in Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.
Ms. Corey was born November 6, 1920 in Decatur the daughter of Faye Cavanaugh Quick and C. Walter Quick. She was employed by Eichenauer Services for many, many years until her retirement in 1986. She was an avid lover of music and had performed in many concerts and contests throughout her life. She quilted for many years. She loved Antique Road Show, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Downton Abbey. She was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan, although she did grudgingly acknowledge the Cubs World Series victory in 2016. She also made the best banana bread in the entire world.
Surviving are her daughters, Sharon McCarty of Decatur; Mary Lynn Cotter (Walter) Cotter of Stuart, FL: Margaret White of Decatur; Gail Foss (Bob) of Winter Port, ME; brother Kenneth “K.O.” Quick of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers: Walter Quick, Richard Quick, and Lynn “Bud” Quick; 3 sisters: June Keys, Evelyn Biddle, and Betty Cox; and 2 grandsons: Lynn Coffman and Steve Fitzgerrel.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Tresa Woods from C.H.E.L.P. who has been with Ms. Corey for over 10 years and to the Nurses and staff of the IMC unit at DMH.
Services to celebrate Mary’s life will be 2 PM Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1-2 PM Saturday in the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to C.H.E.L.P., Meals on Wheels, or Catholic Charities.
