Mary L. Duncan's Obituary
Mary Louise Duncan, 81, of Decatur was called home to Heaven on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Fair Havens Christian Home with her family by her side after a 6 year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mary Lou was born July 16, 1932 to Henry and Mabel Minnis in Omaha, Nebraska. She lived several happy years in McAllen, TX. She graduated from Decatur High School. Mary Lou had a beautiful voice and loved singing with the Modernaires.
She married Thomas Duncan March 1, 1953, who preceded her in death in 2002. “Mama Lou’s” greatest joys were her faith, family, friends, and music. She loved people and always had a smile for everyone she met. She was a “Home” maker and an excellent baker. Known for her “Delicious Brownies and French Breakfast Puffs.” She loved taking road trips with her husband, reading and talking with friends, and the “Talk Show” on Hinsdale were her favorites.
She leaves to cherish her memory, brother Wally Minnis of Decatur, sister in-law Martha Thornton (Bob) of Decatur, daughters Cindy Duncan, Julie Lorson of Decatur, Laura Shelton (Jeff) of Covington, Georgia, son David Duncan of Argenta, Daughter Jaclyn Jeppson, (Russ) of Decatur. Grandchildren, Seth Duncan (Alanna) of Argenta, Alexa Duncan, Argenta, and Alena Mary Jeppson of Decatur. Greatgrandson, Easton Duncan of Argenta. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Reunited in Heaven with her husband, parents, sister Margaret Doyle, brother Bob Minnis and son-in-law Dan Lorson. Also, sisters in-law Jane Minnis, Barbara Duncan and brother in-law Gene Duncan.
The family would like to thank the wonderful angels at Fair Havens Christian Home. Also Mary Lou’s loving caregivers: Ernestine Hill, Ethel Newbern, Debbie Dyer, Kathy Lin, Chris Henneberry and dear family friends Mary Hogan and Linda Ludwick.
The family requests in lieu of flowers please give memorials to Alzheimer’s Research. A celebration of life for Mary Lou will be at a later date.
