Mary E. Hobbs' Obituary
Decatur-Mary E. Hobbs, 87, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 in her home.
Mary was born October 26, 1926, in Niantic the daughter of Ralph and Ethel (Wree) Durflinger. She was previously employed as a switchboard operator with St. Mary’s Hospital retiring after twenty-three years of service. She was a member of Parkway Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and reading. She married Archie Hobbs September 7, 1947 in Niantic. He preceded her in death April 12, 1989.
Mary leaves behind her children Warren (Diana) Hobbs of Decatur, Wanda Hensley of Decatur, Frances Clark of Decatur, and Carol (Stan) Palmer of Jonesboro, sister Ellen Furstenburg of Decatur, grandchildren Anthony (Beth) Hobbs, Anita (Windsor) Liaw, Bret Hobbs, Brandon (Jennifer) Hobbs, Timothy (Lesa) Ashenfelter, John Hensley, Robert Masters, Mary Betancourt, Donald (Dusty) Palmer, and Letitia (Todd) Downen, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
Mary was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, and brothers Harold, Joe, and Fredrick Durflinger.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Evergreen Assisted Living where she resided for one year and six months.
Services to celebrate Mary’s life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Long Point Cemetery in Niantic. Memorials may be directed to Evergreen Assisted Living or to Long Point Cemetery.
