Mary Kaye Gould's Obituary
Decatur – Mary Kaye Gorden Gould, 67, of Decatur passed away at 8:10 am Saturday, May 28, 2011 in her home.
Mary Kaye was born on May 6, 1944 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Haldon and Lugenia (Bugg) Gorden. She attended grade school in Assumption, IL and graduated from Moweaqua High School in 1962. She loved volunteering at St. Mary's Hospital. It is what kept her going for so many years in spite of her many health problems. She was also actively involved in S.A.I.L., the Diabetes Association, Alzheimer Association, and Catholic Charities. She was a member of Northwest Christian Church. She married Robert L. Gould on May 17, 1975. He preceded her in death October of 1976.
Surviving are her loyal companion, Terry Barger of Decatur; mother, Lugenia (Bugg) Dean of Decatur and step-father, Fred Dean and step-brother, Doug Dean of Georgia, stepmother, Rosalie Gorden of Taylorville, special uncle, Tom Gorden (Mary) of Moweaqua; special cousin and wife, (who lovingly watch over her mother, Lugenia) Jim Bugg (Sondra) of Assumption; many loving cousins and friends; special niece, Laura Kaye Akers (Stephen)and children Zechariah and Sarai Miller of Florida, and lifelong friend, Pat (Ed) Krug, as well as many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Halden Gorden, husband, Bob Gould; brother, Ronnie Gorden, step-brother, Freddy Dean and step-sister, Debbie.
Mary Kaye loved people and fun. She was blessed by all the wonderful care from nurses and doctors and friends over the many years since the car accident in 1963 that left her a paraplegic. She never let her physical handicap stop her from living life to the fullest. Her motto was also her favorite song 'What a Wonderful World.' She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Funeral Service celebrating the life of Mary Kaye will be 10 am Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in Northwest Christian Church. Visitation will be 5 ' 7 pm Tuesday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bilyeu Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials are suggested to St Mary's Auxiliary or the Northwest Christian Church.
