Mary Jean Hastings' Obituary
Mary Jean Hastings, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 16, 2021 at Hickory Point Christian Village.
Mary was born on November 29, 1926 in Decatur, the daughter of Clarence and Eva Roderick. She met Wayne Hastings while working at the Houdaille Hershey War Plant in Decatur. They were married on September 23, 1945 and celebrated 68 years together. She was a homemaker and a member of Decatur First Church of the Nazarene.
In her younger years, Mary enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, knitting and taking care of her family and home. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School. She developed a talent for baking and made numerous wedding and specialty cakes. In later years, she used her knitting abilities to make an afghan for each of her family members to remember her by.
Surviving are her children, Linda (Steven) Volle of Oreana and Steven (Dawn) Hastings of Queen Creek, Arizona; four grandchildren, Brian (Tessa) Volle of Oreana, IL, Andrea (Scott) Woodruff of Oreana, IL, Ryan Christopher (Jen) Hastings of Mesa, AZ and Alllison (Mike) Smith of Queen Creek, AZ; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; seven sisters and one brother.

Absent from the body, present with the Lord!
Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Family services will be held. Memorials may be made to Hickory Point Christian Village 565 West Marion, Forsyth, IL 62535.
