Mary E. Matos' Obituary
Mary E. Matos, 67, of Decatur, IL passed away April 7, 2018 at her residence.
Mary was born August 10, 1950 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Parker A. and Leah Ruth (Jewel) Brown.
Mary had worked as a secretary and a beautician for many years. She was known to all the kids in the neigborhood as “Grandma” and all of her children and grandchildren as “G.G.” She enjoyed crafting and loved to take her grandchildren to church. She was an incredible artist and loved drawing. She created and illustrated a children’s book for her grandchildren.
Mary was survived by her children, Mary Warnsley of Decatur, Laura Peoples (Odell) of Decatur, Ericka Brown of Stafford, VA, Brittney Weatherford of Decatur; siblings, Thomas Brown (Sandy) of Lovington, IL, Lynda Knotts of Decatur, Ruth Samon of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Stayza Graves, Megan Reed, Cortezia Peoples, Odell Peoples, LaTaza Warnsley, Samantha Cunningham, Laron Hill, Amber Matos; great-grandchildren, Khyree Ford, Sy’aire Miner, LaVeah Warnsley, Tylir Warnsley, Ahnalayah Warnsley, one great-grandchild on the way; Clay Ridley; a host of nieces and nephews and all the kids who called her “Grandma”.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, three brother and two sisters.
The family will be hosting a memorial service to be held 2:00 PM Saturday April 14, 2018 at Vintage Church, 269 W. Eldorado St., Decatur, IL 62522.
