Mary Riedel's Obituary
Decatur-Mary Riedel, 94 of Decatur, passed away 6:40 pm Friday, February 4, 2011 at Aspen Ridge Nursing Home.
Cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be scheduled. Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of choice. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting her family with arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with Mary's family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Mary was born on June 10, 1916 in Decatur, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Frantzkooick) Pillnik. She was a graduate of Decatur High School and went on to attend Brown's Business College in Decatur. Mary was employed for several years as a secretary for A.E. Staleys and was later employed by Millikin Bank. Mary and Everett J. Riedel were married on October 15, 1938 in Decatur. They enjoyed life together as Mary was a member of Anserettes, Lady Elks, they enjoyed traveling, square dancing, bowling and gardening. She also enjoyed traveling to the Everglades and spending time on her son's air boat.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Roberta Forbes of Springfield; her son John Riedel of West Palm Beach, FL; her 6 grandchildren John Thomas Riedel, Shawn Everett Riedel, Tracy Ann Riedel, Dan Everett Riedel all of West Palm Beach, FL; Michelle Diane Baranko of Roseburg, OR; and William 'Skip' Spent, Sr. of Decatur; and 11 great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett, step-sisters Gertrude Friedman and Frieda Rader; and her step-brothers Oscar Pillnik and Walter Pillnik.
Mary will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and her 'special pal' her dog Lassie.
