Mary Scheiter's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Scheiter, 88, of Decatur, Illinois went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday evening, January 2, 2014. Mary passed peacefully in her sleep with her family around her after a struggle with cancer.
Mary was born in Decatur, IL on November 18, 1925 to Oscar and Mary Brown. Mary had four brothers and two sisters who have all preceded her in death except for one younger brother, Jack Brown. Mary was married to Robert M. Scheiter in 1946. Mary and Robert had three children, Deborah, Mark and Eric. Mary’s husband, Robert and her son Mark also preceded her in death. Mary is survived by her son, Eric Scheiter and his wife, Judy and their two children Melissa and Kenny; her daughter, Deborah Scheiter and her husband, Bruce Horn; her granddaughter Kristina Scheiter; and her grandson, Bob Scheiter and his wife Carrie and their children Audrey Elizabeth and Noah. Mary also has numerous loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews that she leaves behind.
Mary was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was involved in many activities there. She also worked in the purchasing department of Black and Co. Industrial for many years until her retirement. After retirement, Mary spent much of her time caring for others, be they elderly or just needing of her time and some special attention. There was no one more generous with her time, wisdom and love than Mary. She was also an avid gardener and shared her talents and plants with anyone who wanted to learn or just loved flowers. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all of those whose lives she touched. We are all better people for having known her.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to all of those who cared for Mary in her last days; Dr. Marilee Peters, Dr. Benjamin Esparaz, the DMH Hospice staff – Jim, Diane, Gayle, Leslie, Christina and others, Pastor Wray Offerman, the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church family, and all of her friends and family who made it a point to visit, call, send cards or offer support and prayers when it was most needed.
Visitation and the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1 Bachrach Ct., Decatur IL. Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. and the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service. Arrangements by Graceland Fairlawn.
