Mary Verna Smith's Obituary
Mary “Verna” Smith, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 9:30 A.M. on Friday (09-29-2023) at Imboden Creek Living Center.
Verna was born on October 28, 1936, in Bement, IL, the daughter of Charles Lugar and Millie L. (Glebe) Lugar. She married Robert Eugene Smith on January 1, 1956, in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2014.
She is retired from Taylor Pharmaceutical. Verna loved going for long car rides with her son Larry and playing cards at the Senior Center with her friends.
Verna is survived by her children: Laura Cundiff and husband Dave; Larry Smith, Alyson Fowler, Julie Smith, and Kim Barnes and husband Richard all of Decatur, IL, 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and a few great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son David Smith, grandson Beau Ford, great-grandson Holden Ford, sister Kathleen Crouch, and brother Cecil Lugar.
A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday (10-04-2023) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. A Graveside service will be held at Graceland Cemetery following the funeral service.
Memorials may be made to the Senior Center.
