Mary E. Stewart Dickman's Obituary
Decatur-Mary E. Stewart Dickman, 89, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Mary was born May 13, 1927 in Greenup, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Alice (Cougill) McMechan. She was a devoted homemaker and member of the Eastern Star and First Baptist Church where she served as a greeter for twenty years. Mary married Thomas M. Stewart October 29, 1944. He preceded her in death November 13, 1981. She then married Allen Dickman May 6, 1995. He preceded her in death June of 2010.
Mary leaves behind her daughter Diana (Pat) Colvin of Forsyth, one brother Don McMechan of Greenup, two grandchildren Jennifer Aughenbaugh and Ron Colvin, one great-grandchild Casey Aughenbaugh, special nephew Gary McMechan, and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three brothers Kenneth, Robert, and Harold “Pete” McMechan, and one sister Lena Neese.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Eagle Ridge for all of their loving care.
Services to celebrate Mary’s life will be 11 AM Monday, October 31, 2016 in the First Baptist Church, 1320 W Arbor Dr. Decatur, with Pastor Ron French officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or the American Heart Association.
