Mary Jane Strong's Obituary
Mary Jane Strong, 90, of Johnston, IA formerly of Decatur, IL, passed away at 9:26 P.M. on Monday (02-26-2024) in Glen Oaks Alzheimer Care Facility in Urbandale, IA.
Mary was born on May 26, 1933, in Warrensburg, IL, the daughter of Franklin Bilyeu and Helen (Stanger) Bilyeu. She married Robert Lee Strong, Sr, on June 29, 1952, in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death on January 24, 2011, after almost sixty years of marriage.
Mary was a bookkeeper for many businesses during her working career. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Time spent at the campground was also a favorite. She was a bird watcher and enjoyed gardening in her spare time.
She is survived by her son Robert Lee Strong, Jr, and wife Doris of Johnston, IA; four grandchildren: Tracey Martin and husband Rick of Broken Arrow, OK, Ryan Strong and wife Jill of Decatur, IL, Shannon Winders and partner Lauren Machanis of Plainfield, IL, Amber Martin of Johnston, IA; great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Kaia, Jake, Rowen, Stella, Emmy, Hayden, Kate, and Logan.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and three sisters.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (03-05-2024) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. A Graveside service will follow at the Pieta Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery.
