Mary Jo Summers' Obituary
Mary Josephine Summers, 74, of Decatur, passed away September 5, 2016, at McKinley Court Nursing Home.
Mary Jo was born December 15, 1941 in Decatur, to Rudolph Frank and Leona Elizabeth (Cooke) Tokarz. She served her country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. She married Glen Dennis Summers on December 18, 2004 in Winnemucca, Nevada. He passed away in 2010. Mary Jo loved cats and dogs, playing bingo and cards. She graduated from St. Teresa High School and worked 30 years for the state of Illinois.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Margaret) Summers of Wheaton; three step-grandchildren, Julie, James and Brian; seven step- great- grandchildren; one step- great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Robert (Annie) Tokarz of Decatur; two sisters, Patricia Mooney of Warrensburg and Paulette (Albert) Reiterman of Latham; one aunt, Mary Toth of Forsyth; one uncle, Bill Cooke of Decatur; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Ronald Tokarz.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Sobel, Dr. D. Patel, all of the nurses on the 4th & 5th floor at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur VA Outpatient Clinic and McKinley Court for their outstanding care.
Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 3850 Lourdes Dr, Decatur, IL 62526. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church. Military honors by the Macon County Honor Guard will be conducted following the mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Decatur VA Outpatient Clinic 3035 E Mound Rd, Decatur, IL 62526.
