Mary A. Van Orman's Obituary
Decatur-Mary A. Van Orman, 87, of Decatur, passed away at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Mass of the Resurrection to celebrate Mary's life will be 11:15 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2010 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 407 E. Eldorado, with Father Jeff Grant Celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur Senior Center or the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Mary was born November 18, 1923 in an old farm house in Assumption the daughter of Irish Catholics John and Alice (Boland) Creamer. She was delivered by a doctor named Doc Crowe. She used to say, she was brought here by a Crowe not the stork. Waiting to welcome her into the world was her two year old sister Eleanor (called Ellie). She was not only her sister, but her very best friend until she died in 1974 at the age of fifty-one. She completed eight years at St. Patrick School and graduated from Decatur High in 1941 the same year we entered W.W. II. She then was to enter a career that would last over the next twenty -five years. She became a professional photographer working for Olan Mills and Burchett Studios. She then started working at Easter Seals as an assistant therapist working with handicapped children and adults. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church the Sons and Daughters of Ireland and volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital and the Senior VIP. Mary and her husband were very active for many years in the American Legion Post 105. She married Harry W. Van Orman in 1950. They went all eight years at St. Patrick School together and were reunited. He preceded her in death in 1988.
She leaves behind her daughters; M. Connie Brown and husband Greg of Burlington, Iowa and Sheila Belleville and husband Darrell of Oreana, grandchildren; Bruce Loveall and wife Melissa of Latham and Sherri Slade and husband David of Warrensburg, step-grandchildren; Michael and Caitlin Slade, great-granddaughter; Angela Loveall, stepson; Robert Van Orman and wife Laverne of Zephyrhills, Florida, niece; Patricia Tyson and husband C. Patrick of Sherman, special cousin; Bill Creamer of Owaneco, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, and sister: Ellie.
