Mary I. Zientara's Obituary
Decatur – Mary I. Zientara, 89, of Decatur, passed away at 2:25 pm Thursday, December 17, 2009 at her residence.
Services to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor John Laux officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment with the “Flight Home” Ceremony will be at Fairlawn Cemetery. Mary was born December 31, 1919 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Blanche (Elder) Richardson. She married Henry Zientara on September 2, 1939 in Rockville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2004.
Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved to bake, especially her home-made German cookies. Mary loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals, her favorite baseball team, and traveled throughout the U.S. with her granddaughter Stacy.
She will be sadly missed by her one daughter: Rochelle (Russ) Hood of Decatur, one son: Larry (Sue) Zientara of Topeka, Kansas, two brothers: Roger (Carol) Richardson of Herrick, Illinois, and Stanley (Alberta) Richardson of Decatur, two sisters: Audrey (Lonnie) Russell of North Carolina, and Shirley (Dale) Brummett of Oklahoma, two grandchildren: Stacy (Chad) Keller and Jill (Pat) Cox, five great-grandchildren: Paige, Jack Henry, Brooke, Brandon, and Dylan, and a special friend of the family “adopted daughter” Sharon Nolte.
She was reunited in Heaven with her husband: Henry, parents, one son, and one great-grandson: Nicholas Michael.
