Matthew Clary's Obituary
Matthew Clary, 17, passed away on July 30, 2026, in Memphis, TN, surrounded by his loving family. Matthew was born on July 17, 2009, in Bloomington, IL, the son of Charity Mefford-Ness and Alan Clary.
Matthew had never met a stranger. He went through life with a smile on his face and glowing positivity. Matthew was multi-talented, he loved to sing and draw, and utilized his artistic talents in choir and as the Maroa-Forsyth High School mascot, Chuck. Matthew was also involved in the Special Olympics, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and was an active member in his church at Decatur First Church of the Nazarene. Matthew adored music; his playlists were diverse and loved by those he shared them with. He also enjoyed playing video games and rooting for Alabama football (Roll Tide!). Matthew was a beloved son, brother, grandson, and nephew, and is going to be dearly missed by all those whose lives he has touched.
Matthew is survived by his parents: Charity (Thomas "Eggman" Ness) Mefford-Ness and Alan (Kelly) Clary; brothers: Michael and Abel Clary; stepsiblings: Mikayla Mefford, Madison Mefford, Nathaniel Ness, Shelby Ness, Jakob Ness, and Bella Ness; aunts: Angela Sanders and Becca Ulrich; grandparents: Mike and Brenda Sullins and Stephen and Linda Clary; beloved cat, Smokey; and other family and friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his stepfather, Dennis Mefford, Jr.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Decatur First Church of the Nazarene. A Celebration of Life will begin at 4:00pm following visitation.
