Melvin Hedenberg's Obituary
Melvin Richard Hedenberg, 86, of Winter Haven, FL (formerly of Decatur, IL) passed peacefully to Heaven December 22nd, 2024, at home while his niece Jacqueline held his hand.
Melvin felt so much peace when he went to New Beginnings Church of God in Decatur and loved chatting with everyone. He was also a lifetime member with the Decatur Genealogical Society. He enjoyed traveling with family and going places that involved anything to do with history. In Melvins younger days, he enjoyed woodworking and making jewelry. In his later years, he discovered his amazing artistic talent for coloring intricate pictures.
Melvin loved building many beautiful homes in Macon County alongside of his father Elmer and his brother Jack. Once he retired from that, you could find him working at True Value. He always had a smile when customers came in and he knew exactly where everything was.
Our family would like to thank Mel’s personal home care team – Toni, Max, Merion, Sharon and Mary Lou…these ladies all showed up to help with a smile and hugs and he cherished each one. The Good Shepherd Hospice – Poppy Team was also amazing – Teresa, Melissa, HL, Kat, and DaLecia.
A Celebration of Life will be planned later. Melvin was loved and cherished by his family and friends. He wanted his favorite Bible verse to be shared and its Proverbs 3:5-6 which reads: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Melvin was ready to be in Heaven…he had so many questions for Jesus, and he couldn’t wait to see his little brother Jack again!
