I remember my Grandpa always being so stern, but he was fun sometimes. He use to joke and kid with us. He use to scare us with the pickle man in the jar saying" if you don't mind I will let the pickle man out to get you" that freaked me out. He use to let me make bullets in his basement, and always show me his model airplanes. I loved my Grandpa. I will always remember everything about him. Especially the smell of his pipe on Christmas Morning.
Melvin was a true, long time friend to me. We spent many happy hours target shooting and even more hours just talking and laughing together. His knowledge of so many different things never ceased to amaze me. He tried to be tough, but in truth he was caring and compassionate. I considered him family – and I hope he felt the same about me.
