Michael Joseph Grossman's Obituary
Michael Joseph Grossman, 77, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Saturday (08-31-2024) at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Michael was born on August 7, 1947, in Springfield, IL, the son of Joseph Nicholas Grossman and Betty Ann (Horton) Grossman. He married Judy Karen Eder on October 26, 1968, in Decatur, IL. They had been married for almost 56 years.
Michael served his country in the United States Navy. He worked at Caterpillar for 30 years, retiring in 1998. Michael was a member of Saints James and Patrick Parish. He volunteered for Catholic Charities helping with Meals on Wheels and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of ESGR and volunteered at the South Wheatland Township Fire Department for 17 years. Michael also did the taxes for seniors at the Senior Center for 22 years. He was a member of the F.B.I. Citizens Academy, was the Dewitt County Sportsman Treasurer, and was a Deputy Coroner for Macon County.
He is survived by his wife Judy of Decatur, IL; 2 sons: Joseph Michael Grossman and wife Missy of Moweaqua, IL, and Christopher Michael Grossman and wife Misty of Mt. Zion, IL; and grandchildren: Simon, Caleb, Camryn, and Caden.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, he was especially close to his maternal grandmother Christine Horton.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday (09-22-2024) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday (09-23-2024) at St. James Catholic Church. A Graveside will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery Springfield, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus.
