Michael Wayne Haney's Obituary
Michael Wayne “Mikey” Haney, 66, sometimes known as the “Whistler,” passed October 4, 2021 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mike was born in Decatur on July 29, 1955 to Ernest “Junior” and Vonda Lee Haney. He attended Washington, Johns Hill, and Eisenhower schools. He worked on the railroad as a cook. He retired from Local labor Hall 159.
Mike enjoyed exercising and relaxing at the YMCA. He also enjoyed travels to Colorado, Deadwood SD, and quick jaunts to St. Louis with friends. He praised the Lord at GT Church when he could.
Mike has chosen cremation and requested that his ashes be spread in the Colorado Rockies.
Mike leaves behind brother Steve and sister Debbie Pierce; nephew Brad; and goddaughter Krystal Maxwell. He has gone to Heaven to be with his parents, brothers Jimmy and Jackie, and sister Karen.
The family would like to thank DMH 5100 for all the care and support they gave him. Thanks to his home caregiver Dana Watson, friends Sean Christian, and John Boy for all their help.
Mike could put a smile on a frown. He brought laughter to any party. He visited nursing homes to pass out cookies to the elderly.
Fly high, Mike, and save us a seat up there. We will miss you.
