Michael Leo Mowen's Obituary
Michael Leo Mowen, 76, of Bartlett, Illinois, passed away February 25, 2025, at Ascension Saint Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Michael was born in Decatur, Illinois, on July 4, 1948, the son of Donald and Phyllis (Kimmons) Mowen. He served proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He married Dawn Marie Sterling in Decatur, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2020.
Michael earned a Bachelor's Degree from U of I in Springfield and then entered a long, honorable career as a police officer. He rose to the rank of Chief of Police in Decatur, a position he held until his retirement from the force. After that, he continued to serve the people of Decatur as Assistant City Manager.
Michael was a great husband and father. He enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas when he could get away from work. He spent every Sunday for many years shopping with his wife Dawn and his best friends Mike and Debbie Queen.
Michael is survived by his son Brian Michael Mowen of Streamwood, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Visitation for Michael will be from 12pm to 1pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 1pm in the funeral home. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service.
