Michael Lynn Walker's Obituary
La Place-Michael Lynn Walker, 69, of La Place, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at his home with his family by his side.
Services to celebrate Michael's life will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with the “Flight Home” Ceremony to conclude the service. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment will be at La Place Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to God's Abundant Love Fellowship. A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at God's Abundant Love Fellowship, 6480 E. Fitzgerald Rd. Decatur.
Michael was born February 26, 1942 in Decatur, the son of Robert S. and Olive L. (Russell) Walker. He proudly served his country in the USAF. He worked in Missouri before returning to Decatur. He retired from Homer L. Chastain & Associates. He then began working part time at Walmart in Mt. Zion. He enjoyed working in the garden section and meeting new people. He especially loved the Lord, growing a garden, working around plants, hunting squirrels, fishing, music, and his grandchildren. He married Marilyn Hachenberg March 23, 1984 in Decatur.
He leaves behind Marilyn his beloved wife and best friend of over twenty-seven years, son, Jeff Hachenberg and wife Jill of La Place, sisters, Sally Bean and husband John of Bristol, Virginia, and Jeannine Hazlet of Decatur, grandchildren, Tyler Fisher, Brandon and Holley Hachenberg, lifelong Christian friend, George Ogelsby, and several loving nieces and nephews who thought the world of him.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, brother-in-law Gene Hazlet, and nephew, Willie Rutherford.
The family would like to give a special thanks to DMH Hospice and Gail for their compassionate care.
Holley loves you Papaw. You will be greatly missed and remembered forever.
