Milan Jelks' Obituary
Milan Jelks was born on November 1, 1946, in Decatur, IL to the union of Floyd Jelks Sr, and Wadie (Bond) Jelks.
Milan passed at home and transitioned to be in the presence of the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He received Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Milan graduated from Eisenhower HS in Decatur IL, where he participated in sports playing football and ran track. He then served in the Military from 1966-1968 (Vietnam War).
After returning home he was employed at Mississippi Valley Structural Steel, ADM, then received CDL training and began truck driving over the road, regional and local. Milan got his start as a Truck Driver for Furrows Building & Supply, Mt. Zion, IL and went on to drive for various companies, retiring from Curry Ice & Coal, Illiopolis, IL. He had many handyman skills such as remodeling, carpentry skills, automotive skills and was a blessing to many when needed.
He married the love of his life, Debra Marie (Jenkins) Jelks on February 14, 1975. They were blessed to have been married for 49 years. He leaves to cherish his memories, brothers Jerry Jelks (Ora Lee); Thurman Jelks, both of Decatur, IL. They were blessed with 4 children: Milo Brown (Atlanta GA); Mazie Graves (Jacksonville, FL); Cheresa Jelks Williams (Jeriel), (Indianapolis, IN); Milan Anthony Jelks (Indianapolis, IN); and grandchildren, Isaiah Jones and A. Joshua Williams both of (Indianapolis, IN); Elijah Williams, (Pontiac MI), Ryanna Jelks, A. Malik Jelks, Mila Jelks of (Indianapolis, IN); Imani Wilson and Deontrez Shoultz both of (Atlanta, GA); Ahkeel Barnes of (Decatur, IL).
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lucille Anderson, and brothers, Floyd Jelks Jr, Noah Jelks, Celonia Jelks, Joe Jelks.
The family wishes to thank all the caretakers, doctors, nurses and social workers for all the care and support during this difficult time. We’d also like to thank ALL family and friends for the prayers, love and support.

Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (08-31-2024)) at Community Temple Church of God in Christ with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Entombment will be at the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
