Myrtle Charlotte Gates' Obituary
Decatur-Myrtle Charlotte (Binnier) Gates, 98 of Lehigh Acres, Florida formerly of Decatur, left this life at 7:00 am March 7, 2010.
Celebration of life services for Myrtle Charlotte Gates will be 2:30 pm Monday, March 15, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Avenue, in Decatur with Pastor June Moll officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ of Lehigh Acres or to a charity of the donor's choice. Myrtle was born September 14, 1911 in Bridgeport, IL the daughter of Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Stater) Binnier. She married John Roy Gates on September 17, 1931 in Decatur. They celebrated their 75th anniversary in September of 2006. She was employed at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville as a Pharmacy Technician. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Decatur, Central Christian Church in Danville and a charter member of the of the first Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Lehigh Acres, Florida.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Nancy Kay (David) Weiser of Lehigh Acres, FL, her son Charles Roy (Rose) Gates of Danville, IL; four grandchildren John Michael Weiser of Oakland Park, FL, Julie Kay (John) Lanza of Cape Coral, FL, Jon Martin Gates of Danville, IL, and granddaughter 'in-law Kristi Gates of Darrington WA,; four great grandchildren Cassidy Rose Gates, Jessica Lanza, Jiana Lanza, and Joseph Lanza.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband John Roy Gates in January of 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Aretta Graham and Mary Hillard and her grandson Charles Douglas Gates.
Myrtle enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and crocheting beautiful afghans. Most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her warm, loving smile will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. Myrtle was a caring, gentle person who was always willing to help others.
