Nathan L. Reed's Obituary
Nathan L. Reed, 80, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Nathan was born May 6, 1936 in Decatur, to Irvin and Mary (Colburn) Reed. He married Gertrude “Trudy” Elizabeth Meredith on May 4, 1957 in Decatur. She passed away June 12, 2016. He was a member of New Beginnings Church of God. Nathan retired from Caterpillar. Nathan loved playing poker every Thursday night with his buddies, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, the Fighting Illini and fishing.
He is survived by his two daughters, Leisa (Lynn) Shaffer of Pekin and Michelle (Antonio) Torres of Flanders, NJ; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Blake) Moyer, Brooke (Eric Lanning) Shaffer, Natalie (Ryan) Propst and Nathan Torres; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Moyer, Collin Moyer and Jayden Propst; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Trudy; one son, Nathan Reed, Jr.; five brothers and five sisters.
Services to celebrate the life of Nathan Reed will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Graceland Cemetery with the “Flight Home” Ceremony following the committal. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38015.
