Nathanael Paul Moyer's Obituary
Nathanael Paul Moyer, 48, of Decatur, was born west of Charleston on July 25, 1977 to Scott and Lynda Moyer. On April 20, 2026, in Springfield, Illinois, Nathan passed into the loving arms of Jesus, our Savior.
From a very young age, Nathan made friends easily and seemed to be a natural leader. All through life, he really enjoyed cheering people up!
With heart tender toward God, and caring toward others, Nathan set out to follow God’s call. His heart was touched by stories of those who experienced the great transformation from dark despair to God’s glorious New Life and Light! When questioned about his future, Nathan expressed his desire to minister to those in need of such transformation. He cherished his chances to minister, at one time being called “The Pastor for the Master.” And his sermons proved anointed of God.
Nathan loved his Mom and Dad and often told them so. When they needed help renovating, he asked God for wisdom. His prayer was answered, enabling him to understand and use the necessary skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and beyond. After that, if just about ANYTHING needed fixed, Nathan was the man for the job. He was truly blessed with the “gift of helps.”
Professionally, it seemed that Nathan always ended up working dangerous jobs: like running the rappel-outrigger on top of tall buildings for window washing and pipefitting at ADM, to name just a couple – but what risky, scary stories he told!
Then everyone knows Nathan had a Big Heart! Several times he commented, “My Dad is my hero! Also, he dearly loved his own stepchildren: Dalton, Khrystian, Alyssa, Branden, Derick, and Damion. When his beloved Uncle Monty needed help, Nathan stepped up with his special love and care. Additionally, his dog Sampson had a very dear place in his heart.
God’s mercy and faithfulness continued, even in dark times and through many challenges.
Nathan’s desire was to be restored again to usefulness for God. He truly enjoyed listening to church services, especially when he could no longer attend. During the last few weeks, he called Bro. Hedden and Bro. Logan many times—while his life was shining for Jesus. What carefulness we saw!
Near the end, Nathan wanted to make sure all was well with his soul. Alone with his Mom, he asked her to come hold his hand for prayer, after which he left a clear testimony that he believed he was forgiven, saved, and ready, “if something happened.” Thank God for His goodness and for this testimony!
“We love you, Nathan! We miss you! And we expect to see on the other side.”
In addition to his parents and stepchildren, Nathan is survived by two aunts, two uncles, and twelve cousins (of which 10 are older).
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Charles and Pearl Moyer, and Paul and Rosie Roller; as well as three aunts, four uncles, and one cousin.
Nathan was laid to rest privately in Harristown Cemetery.
At 11:30 a.m. on June 6, 2026, all are invited to a meal provided by the church. This is to be held at the Mt. Zion Library, 115 W. Main Street, Mt. Zion, IL 62549. Come share your memories of Nathan.
