Nicholas J. Schiro's Obituary
Decatur-Nicholas J. Schiro, 78, of Decatur, passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 in his home.
He was born January 22, 1935 in Murphysboro, Illinois, the son of Paul and Clara (Riggio) Schiro. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was previously employed as an insurance agent with Metropolitan Life for thirty years. He then went to work as an examiner with the IL Department of Insurance retiring after sixteen years. He was a member of Ss James and Patrick Parish, the Knights of Columbus Council #577, and 4th degree member of the Jeremiah J. Murphy Assembly in Decatur. He enjoyed vacationing, fishing, playing cards, and going to casinos. He married Beatrice A. “Betty” Florio January 31, 1959 in Murphysboro, Illinois. She preceded him in death July 26, 2008.
He leaves behind his son Nicholas M. Schiro and wife Kelli of Westville, daughters Cynthia Logue of New Mexico, Christine Marshall and husband Gregg of Decatur, and Ann Schiro and fiancé Todd Gober of Argenta, grandchildren Mary Beth Logue, Sarah Schiro, Jessica Schiro, Emily Schiro, Elizabeth Schiro, Alexandria Welch, Jeff Henry, Katelyn Marshall, and Cari Bong, great-grandson Teyton Schiro, and sisters Angie Schiro, Frances Weber, and Minnie Benefield.
He is reunited in Heaven with his parents and wife.
Funeral Liturgy to celebrate Nicholas’ life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the funeral home with a Vigil Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m. Burial with military honors and “Flight Home” Ceremony will be in Resurrection Gardens at Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Knights of Columbus Council #577.
