Norma Jean Bunch's Obituary
Norma Jean Bunch, 82, of Decatur passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 4, 2014. She had been spending the winter in Jonesboro, GA at her “winter home” with her daughter, Barb.
Services to celebrate Norma Jean’s life will be 11 AM Thursday, April 10, 2014 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church with Pastors Bill and Brock Abbott officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Wednesday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home and one hour before service in the church on Thursday. Interment will be held in Macon County Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest, next to her husband, Preston Bunch. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2010. Norma Jean was born August 28, 1931 in Nokomis, IL, the daughter of Stephen and Lulu Workman. She married Preston on April 16, 1949 in Decatur.
Norma Jean was a homemaker and “babysitter” as she put it. After Preston’s death, Norma Jean took over as the head of the family, continuing Preston’s teaching of laughter, loving, caring, and sharing.
She leaves behind her three daughters: Barb Baker, Sharon (Buddy) Robey and Janet (Randy) Foster; four grandchildren: Andy (Lisa) Baker, Dan (Sandra) Robey, Jeremy Foster, and Amber (Doug) Davenport; eight great-grandchildren: Abbey Baker, Zach, Kayla, Gavin, and Elizabeth Robey, Drew, Dede, and Delanie Davenport. She also leaves behind her loving cat, Tippy.
After spending four years without Preston, they will be together again to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2014.
Norma Jean was reunited in Heaven with her parents: Stephen and Lulu Workman, her-in-laws: George and Stella Bunch, three brothers and eight sisters as well as her loving son-in-law: Gordon Baker.
