Norma Jean Wooten's Obituary
Norma Jean Wooten, 83, of Oreana, Illinois, passed away May 30, 2025, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.
Norma was born in Alton, Illinois, on June 26, 1941, the daughter of William and Mary (Baker) Mellenthin. She married Jerry Dale Wooten Sr. on June 21, 1967, in Decatur. He preceded her in death in 2021. Norma loved taking care of her family and her home, and she was a wonderful cook and baker. She had a passion for antique cars, which she indulged in by joining and serving as secretary for the Cruisin’ Roosters Car Club. She was an active member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church for a long time and later became a member of Oreana Baptist Church. Norma’s deep faith in Christ was a guiding light throughout her life.
Norma is survived by her children Connie (Dan) Callan of Stonington, IL and James Wooten of Oreana, IL; son-in-law Carl Ginger; daughter-in-law Lauren Bundy; 8 siblings; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Christine Ginger, son Mark Wooten, and 8 brothers and sisters.
Visitation for Norma will be from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday, June 4, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 5, at the funeral home. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service.
