Norman V. Whiteman's Obituary
Decatur – Norman V. Whiteman, 85, of Springfield formerly of Decatur passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Norman was born on November 18, 1926 in Hillsboro the son of Clyde and Thelma (Vaughn) Whiteman. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a retired corrections officer from Macon County Sheriff's Department. He was a former member of the Moose and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and bowling in his younger years and was a successful baseball coach for Khoury League. He was a die-hard Cubs fan and enjoyed listening and watching the Chicago Cubs. He married Mary L. Severns on March 22, 1947 in Clinton.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; son, Vaughn A. Whiteman (Denise) of Springfield; daughter, Lynne Mosley (Nelson) of Bettendorf, IA; brothers, Bob Whiteman (Effie) of Decatur; Bruce Berry (Carol) of Joliet; Dale Berry (Jo) of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Tracy Prosser (David) of Springfield; Erin Nowlan (Kevin) of Morton; Kari Ann Whiteman of Green Valley; Brok Adam Whiteman of Springfield; Paige Kimberly Whiteman of Springfield; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Doris Grabe, and brother, Johnny Whiteman
Honoring Norman's wishes cremation will take place at Graceland/Fairlawn Crematory. A memorial gathering will be 1 -3 PM Saturday, November 10, 2012 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice. Casual attire is requested.
