Ollie Rosenkranz's Obituary
Ollie Catherine Rosenkranz, 94, of Decatur, IL passed away February 7, 2025, at her residence with her loving family by her side. Ollie was born August 1, 1930, in Marshall, IN, the daughter of Samuel J and Toleda (Reubling) Metcalf.
Ollie married Roger Elmo Rosenkranz on June 15, 1957, in East St. Louis, IL. Ollie shared her husband’s passion for furniture. Together, they owned and operated Cohn Furniture, Inc., a beloved staple of downtown Decatur, IL, for over 35 years, building a business that became a trusted name in the community. Ollie was a PTA president and volunteered for the Macon County Historical Society. She spent countless hours making food and working the various booths for the annual Yesteryear Fair along with her husband, their children, grandchildren, and her sister. She loved visiting family in Minnesota and Georgia, but her adventurous spirit took her far beyond. From the excitement of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, to the peaceful countryside of Montana and scenic train rides through Europe, she embraced every new experience. She never came home empty-handed, always bringing back little mementos and plenty of stories to share with family and friends.
She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing brought her greater joy and happiness than spending time with her family. Her greatest passions were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as she eagerly followed their activities and supported their dreams, cherishing every moment spent with them.
She enjoyed numerous trips to Walt Disney World, Six Flags, and watching her beloved St. Louis Cardinals at Busch stadium. She loved to celebrate life, whether she was the first on the dance floor at wedding receptions, the heart behind family reunions, or the one filling every table with her delicious homemade desserts. She had a gift for turning even the simplest moments into unforgettable celebrations, finding joy in the little things and making every gathering feel like a special occasion.
Surviving are her children: Robin Grubbs (Stuart) of Decatur, IL, Rock Rosenkranz (Pam) of Decatur, IL, Lisa Walker (David) of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren: Amanda (Russ) Wilson, Brandon (Meredith) Walker, Travis (Anne) Rosenkranz, Trisha (Andy) Roberts, Trent Rosenkranz, Allison (Young) Hu, Ashley (Matt) Woods, Rachel (Ryan) Postol, Amber (Richard) Montoya; great-grandchildren: Jacob, Mary Kate, Madeline, Everett, Malia, Joshua, Meredith, Crew, Richard, Weston, Eli, Claire, Carson, Sophia, Marco, Layne; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Roger), parents (Samuel and Toleda Metcalf), and siblings: Charles, Lee, Dorothy, Beulah and David.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Baumberger, Lilly from Memorial Hospice, Jessi, Bobbi Jo and Kathy from Memorial Wound Care Center.
Private family funeral services will be held at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
