Orville James Brickey's Obituary
Decatur-Orville James 'Jim' Brickey, 89, of Decatur, passed away at 8:58 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at his home with his family by his side.
Services to celebrate Jim's life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with the 'Flight Home' Ceremony to conclude the service. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, Illinois. Jim was born May 18, 1921 in Wheelersberg, Ohio, the son of Oscar and Pearl (Caudill) Brickey. He was a graduate of Greenup High School Class of 1939. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in C.B.I. during W.W. II. He was previously employed at the Signal Depot and the City of Decatur Water Treatment Plant where he was the plant operator retiring after nineteen years of service. After retirement he spent his winters in Summerfield, Florida. Jim took pride in his workmanship. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering around in the garage, reading, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the VFW and in his younger years was a Sunday school teacher at the Baptist church. He married Mary Combs March 22, 1947 in Charleston, Illinois.
He leaves behind Mary his beloved wife of over sixty-three years, daughters DeEtta Minix of Macon, Pamela Rogers and companion Ron Hastings of Clinton, Indiana, and Martha Petrowsky of Decatur, brother Vernon Brickey and wife Dorothy of Bloomington, Illinois, grandchildren Angela Ross, Sara Minix, Robert Petrowsky and fiancée Ashley Kleffman, Michele Tutterow and husband Ken, James Rogers and wife Anita, Kindra Rogers and companion Jeff Pender, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, son Charles, and sons-in-law David Petrowsky and Robert Minix.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff with DMH Hospice, Pastor Mike Tapscott, neighbors, family, and friends for all of their loving care, support, and prayers.
