P. Jean Adcock's Obituary
Pearlie Jean (Sumpter) Adcock, of Illiopolis, IL, formerly of Oreana, IL, passed away on May 21, 2018 at 2:03 p.m. at Heritage Health Care, Springfield, IL. Jeanie was born August 15, 1934, to Everett Lee an Ida Rose Ella (Matherly) Sumpter. She married Darrell B. Adcock on April 10, 1955, they were married 63 years. Jeanie was an intelligent, talented, and a hard working woman. She was a 30 year survivor of breast cancer. She was the Tax Assessor for Macon County for 20 + years and also a Tax Assessor for Whitmore/Oakley Township for 19 years before retiring in 1996. She was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 36, she held several chairs, including Senior Regent, Star Recorder and a member of the College of Regence. Jeanie was well known for her love of baking and decorating wedding cakes and birthday cakes, as well as other specialties such as making Christmas cookies and homemade Easter eggs filled with all her own special made chocolates. She liked canning her own jellies and vegetables.
Jeanie leaves behind, her husband, Darrell B. Adcock; her two daughters, Robbin (Bill) Sheets, Heather (David) Giles; her son, Bret (Leisa) Adcock; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry (Janet) Sumpter and Denny Sumpter.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one son, Shane Adcock.
Although she died of natural causes, the family would like all memorials to be made to the Cancer Care Center in Decatur, IL. The family would like to thank St. John’s Hospital of Springfield, IL, Vibra Hospital of Springfield, IL and Heritage Health Care of Springfield, IL for all the excellent care given to Jeanie. All doctors and nurses were very caring and took great care of her.
Visitation services will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Graceland Cemetery.
