Patricia Ann Irons' Obituary
Patricia Ann (Robinson) Irons, 61, of Decatur passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Patricia was born in Chicago, IL to Julius Anderson and Mattie (Johnson) Robinson on November 2, 1952. She passed from time to eternity on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at St. Mary’s hospital surrounded by her family.
She moved to Decatur, IL in 1977 and shortly thereafter found a church home at Jasper Street Church of Christ where she was baptized and served faithfully in several areas, including Church Information Announcer until her illness.
Patricia attended public schools in Chicago, IL where she developed her love of performing arts and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School. She brought that passion for the arts with her to Decatur. She had been a member of the RCC Players, an original member of “Phenomenal Women”, a member of the African-American Community Theatre and of course President and Founder of THE Decatur Power Drillers.
Patricia’s servant heart prompted her to dedicate her time to volunteerism after her retirement from Clinton Nuclear Power Station in 2002. She was a past NAACP member, mentor for Dove, Inc.’s Re-entry program and the drill team coach for THE Decatur Power Drillers.
Patricia married Steven Irons, Jr. and together they raised five daughters, Darsonya (Ted) Switzer, Traci Moore, Je’Taun Irons (Lloyd), Stephanie (Andre) Horne and Nichole Irons (Glendale, Sr.) all of Decatur, IL.
Patricia leaves her wonderful memory and legacy to her daughters, her only sibling and best
friend, sister Sandra Robinson of Decatur, IL.
Grandchildren: Steven, Domonique, DiAndria, Antoneo, DaMecia, Taelor, LaTaija, Laraven, Edwin, Kamen, Erieca, Caprea, Nicholas, Jazmine, DaeLin, Torrica, Glendale, Jr., and Ava.
Great-grandchildren: Ariauna, Joseph, Julian, Journee, D’Laijia, Kylin, Kaydon, Jacari, Ira III, and Ilyana.
Sister in law: Penny Murray (Kileen, TX), Brother in law: William E. Irons (Chicago, IL), Nieces:
Michelle, Danielle and Elaan, Nephews: John, Germaine and Jerel, Great nephew: Darian; a host of family and friends; and a Very Special Extended Family: THE Decatur Power Drillers.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband and parents.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all those who provided their love and support to Patricia during her illness. Your kindness was a great comfort to her.
Homegoing service to celebrate Patricia’s life will be 11 AM Thursday February 13, 2014 in North Jasper Street Church of Christ with Brother Mayo Towels officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home and 10-11 AM Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
