Patricia "Patty" Ann Kreckman-Schwent's Obituary
Patricia “Patty” Ann Kreckman-Schwent, 71, passed away on October 19, 2022, in Decatur, IL.
Patty was born to Alen and Maxine Kreckman on January 3, 1951, in Davenport, IA.
Known to many as Patty, Grandma Patty, daughter, sister and friend, I knew her best as Mommy. My mother devoted her life to being a great mom and grandmother, helping us navigate through life with kindness, respect and empathy. Friends who knew her well will tell you Patty never mixed words yet was one of the kindest people you'll meet. She spent her working years in a factory but with much enthusiasm she also pursued her passion decorating homes and even spent time flipping houses. She was a wonderful artist and devoted time perfecting her skill of sketching faces, so much so that her work seemed to come to life. She filled our home with love, laughter, and animals, but I saw her come alive when she listened to Blues Music, specifically John Lee Hooker and Robert Johnson. Patty surrounded us with the most beautiful house plants, art, and loved antiquing, which only added to her eclectic sense of style. She spoke often of her favorite places like the city of Chicago and in recent years San Francisco, and you could even see the twinkle in her eye with any mention of the ocean. No matter how you remember Patty; blond hair and red sports cars, no nonsense personality, no matter what name you know her by, or what memory takes you back to that special time you shared, I believe we are all better for knowing her
Patty is survived by her daughter, Erika Parsons of Kentucky; brother, Donald Skaw of Iowa; sister-in-law, Sue Barnhart; granddaughter, Vanessa Parsons-Alstatt of Kentucky and many extended family and friends throughout Iowa, Michigan and Illinois.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William Kreckman
