Paul Fuqua's Obituary
Paul Fuqua, 89, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Paul was born April 28, 1925 in Dalton City, IL, the son of Archibald Percival and Cora Octavia (Knapp) Fuqua. He was an officer/minister in The Salvation Army, serving with forty years of service. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII 1943-46, aboard the US LST 601, Mediterranean Theater of War. Paul married Viola Cassidy on July 27, 1946 in Decatur. They shared 68 wonderful years together.
Surviving is his wife Viola Fuqua of Decatur, IL; sons, David Fuqua of Ft. Wayne, IL; Michael C. (Kristine) Fuqua of St. Paul, MN; daughter, Heidi Fuqua of Ft. Wayne, IN; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Paul was reunited in Heaven with his parents, daughter Mary Catherine Reuscher, brothers, Lewis Fuqua, Herbert Fuqua, Homer Fuqua , and sisters, Beulah Samsel, Martha “Tiny” Fuqua, and Emily Knox.
Services to celebrate Paul’s life will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday July 29, 2014 at the Salvation Army 229 W. Main Street, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors.
