Paul Junior Van Camp's Obituary
Paul Van Camp, 94, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Paul was born on September, 23, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Lester and Lucille Van Camp. Paul married his beloved wife, Joan Minkowski on June, 6, 1959, in Monroe, Michigan. They spent 54 years together before Joan’s passing on September 6, 2013.
Paul enjoyed woodworking, boxing, and football throughout his life. Paul was a great bowler; he was a bowling teacher and in charge of the junior bowling leagues. He was a truck driver for many years and was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Out of high school, Paul served for three years in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion and served as Post Commander.
Paul is survived by his six children — Sherry Van Camp, Terri (Don) Skelton, Christine (Billy) Knorr, Paula Van Camp, Paul (Kim) Van Camp, and Roxanne (Bill) Thompson; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two half-sisters — Diana (Jon) Steinmetz and Paula (Mike) Foster; and other friends and family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife — Joan Van Camp; brother — Chuck Van Camp; and two great-grandchildren — Colton Skelton and Kaladin Lawrence.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday August, 19, 2025, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral home at 11:00am. A funeral service will begin at 12:00pm following the visitation. Committal services will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 2:00pm with military rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #105 in Decatur, IL.
