Peggy Lynn Farney's Obituary
Decatur-Peggy Lynn Farney, 66, of Decatur, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 in her home with her family by her side.
Peggy was born June 23, 1948 in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond Christian and Betty Marie (Packer) Bray. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Farney December 19, 1964 in Joplin, Missouri.
She worked for Jewel/Eisner Grocery Store for ten years and later at Sam’s Warehouse Club for seventeen years. Over the years when her children were young she volunteered in the schools. She was an assistant Girl Scout leader and later put on presentations in the schools with the BABES program.
She loved going on day trips around the area with her husband and taking pictures to share with her friends. She loved art and received her Associates in Art Degree as an adult from Richland Community College. She loved antiquing, yard sales, thrift shops, decorating, and genealogy. Most of all she loved her husband, family, and her little cocker spaniel Cocoa.
Peggy leaves behind her husband Jim of Decatur, son Jeff Farney of Savannah, Georgia, daughter Debbie Farney of Decatur, grandsons, Travis and Todd Campbell of Decatur, mother Betty Stanley of Joplin, Missouri, sister Judy Michaud and family from Joplin, Missouri, brother Jim Bray of Texas, brother-in-law Tom Farney of Springfield, Illinois, many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in Missouri and Arkansas, and tons of cousins who meant the world to her.
She was reunited in Heaven with her grandparents, father, in-laws, brother-in-law, a special uncle, infant nephew, and step-father.
The support and loving care she received from everyone was so appreciated. A special thanks goes out to her friends who live or who have ever lived in Joplin, Missouri. Continue to be Joplin Strong!
Honoring Peggy’s wishes cremation services will be provided by Graceland/Fairlawn Crematory. Private family burial will take place in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Specialist of Central Illinois.
