Phyllis Yvonne Lewis' Obituary
Phyllis “Yvonne” Lewis, 93, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at her home.
Yvonne was born on September 10, 1931, in Galesburg, IL. She was a daughter of the late Claire Delvan Schisler and Doris Jacobs Schisler.
Teaching was her purpose in life. She went from grade school through high school as a teacher, substitute teacher, and as a teacher’s aide at the college level. She was devoted to each student who came through her classroom and remembered every one of them.
Yvonne was a Christian, attending church at First Presbyterian of Decatur. Over the years there, she made many friends and participated in several groups; she especially enjoyed being able to help others through counseling. She was a talented artist. Whether she was working in oil or watercolor, she took pride in each abstract work, portrait, and still life piece she produced.
Spending time with her family was important to her, and she never missed an opportunity. Traveling, shopping, going out to eat, and simply enjoying one another’s company were always bright spots in her day.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lewis; and two brothers, Gale and Rodger.
Those surviving include: children, Phyllis (Chris) Ferguson, Scott (Amy) Lewis, and Scott David (Diane) Lewis; sisters, Jody, Anita, and Jeri; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and Will and Dawn, who cared so much for her.
A celebration of life will be held for Yvonne at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at First Presbyterian church in Decatur.
