Phyllis F Smith's Obituary
DECATUR- Phyllis F. Smith, 95 of Decatur, passed away at 8 PM, Friday, January 23, 2026, at Lincolnshire Place, surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 31, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church, with Fr. Chris Comerford as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 9 am until the Mass at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Phyllis was born on December 30, 1930, in Decatur, a daughter of Philip L. and Frances E. (Brinkoetter) Bauer. She graduated from Decatur High School. Phyllis worked A.E. Staley in the safety office where she met her future husband, Tub. She retired as a Macon County Court Reporter under Judge Patton after 21 years of service. Her faith was very important to her; she was a dedicated and loyal member of St. James Catholic Church, and the St. Elizabeth Altar Society. She was also an active member of the Decatur Kiwanians, Ladies of the Knight of Columbus Darrell Beck Council 577, Dove, and the Senior Center. Phyllis married the love of her life, Harold F. “Tub” Smith on November 28, 1953, at St. James Catholic Church.
Surviving are her faithful loving children- Tom and his wife Susan of Sequim, WA, Ed and his wife Tammy of Decatur, Teresa and her husband Kevin McCoy of Decatur and Janet and her husband Tim Butcher of Mt. Auburn, grandchildren- Griffin (Marisa Sampsel) Smith, Tanner (Kaili Miyamoto) Smith, Tony (Abby) Etnier, Eric Smith, Hayley (Curtis) Briggs, Adam (Tessa) McCoy, Alyssa Taylor, Mandy (Kevin) Hogan, Jake (Becci) Butcher, Layne (Matt) Gleason, twenty six great grandchildren, sister-in-law- Mary Jean Bauer and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Phyllis was greeted in Heaven by her parents, husband- Tub, brothers Edward Bauer and his wife Marie, Robert H. “Bob” Bauer and wife Mary, sister- Bernadine Sebok and her husband Steve.
