R. Esther Smith, 87, of Sebastian, FL, formerly of Decatur, IL, passed away at her residence in Sebastian, FL, May 2, 2023.
Esther was born October 24, 1935 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Glen and Nellie (Wrightsman) Flenner. She married William David Smith on February 4, 1956 in Decatur, IL.
Esther had worked as an LPN at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years. She was of the Methodist faith and had volunteered her time with the American Red Cross.
Esther enjoyed quilting and had further volunteered her talents with Project Linus.
Surviving are her children, Tina Carter (Richard) of Sebastian, FL, Shelley Perry (Timothy) of Sebastian, FL, Connie Moore (Austin) of Washburn, IL; brother, Steven Flenner (Sandra) of Dublin, OH; sisters, Jean Deall of Alton, IL, Susan Kreitner (Ed) of Alton, IL; sister-in-law Doris Crawford of Macon, IL; 5 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and two impending great granddaughters.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband William; and two grandsons.
Graveside memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday May 30, 2023 at Graceland Cemetery.
