Ray Eugene Atteberry's Obituary
FORSYTH-Dr. Ray Eugene Atteberry, 69, passed away on October 28, 2016 at his home in Forsyth, surrounded by his family.
Ray was born on February 14, 1947 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Lowell R. (Ted) and Verla V. (Smith) Atteberry. He married Kathleen Lewis on December 2, 1978 in Decatur, IL.
Surviving are his wife Kathy, and his children, son Bo and daughter-in-law Emma of Dublin, Ireland; his two grandchildren, Euan and Eva; daughter, Andi of Dallas, Texas; son, Cale of Memphis, Tennessee; his little sister, Lynn Fletcher (Ammann) and husband Everett of The Villages, Florida; and his dog Scout.
He is preceded in death by his mom and dad; grandparents, Gladys and Orville Grubb; father-in-law, Ted Lewis; uncle, Gene Atteberry; and his beloved dogs Teddy and Gino.
Dr. Atteberry touched many lives in the community by practicing dentistry for 36 years. He was also a founding partner of the family’s company, Blingsting. He attended the University of Illinois, Austin Peay, and the University of Tennessee Dental School; Ray also served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.
Most of all, he loved being with his wife of 38 years, his kids, dogs, and his ‘boys’; all who will miss his easy-going, funny, and giving spirit. Throughout his entire life, he was incredibly proud of his family and all of the accomplishments they have shared together. He enjoyed spending time with his mother-in-law, Wanda; his favorite sisters-in-law, Carolyn, DiDi, and Tina; brother-in-law, Kenny; nephews, Curt, Kris, and Alec; nieces, Sunni, Karson, and Aubree.
Ray lived his life to the fullest, and loved golfing, fishing, dancing, and vacationing with friends and family.
The family would especially like to thank his niece Sunni Delahunty, PA-c, who helped navigate his care in the final months alongside Dr. Wall. Ray died of complications associated with Alzheimer’s.
We look forward to celebrating his life at a memorial service at First Christian Church on Friday, November 4th at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Macon County Animal Shelter.
