Ray Lucius Redding Sr.'s Obituary
Ray Lucius Redding, Sr, 98, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 2:50 P.M. on Tuesday (05-20-2025) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Ray was born on May 29, 1926, in Lanesville Township, IL, the son of Henry Lucius Redding and Harriet Verna (Ray) Redding. He married Trois Verleigh Myers on November 26, 1961, in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2014.
Ray served his country in the United States Navy as a Sea Bee during WWII. He was a member of East Park Baptist Church in Decatur, IL. Ray worked at Spencer Kellog, Hammond Lumber Company, Camfield Lucas Lumber Company, and then at Firestone for twenty-three years. He was a member of Local #713 URW. Ray was a member of the Masonic Lodge #979 and had a lifetime membership in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
He is survived by his son: Ray Lucius Redding, Jr, and wife Sheri of Decatur, IL; one step grandchild and three step great grandchildren. Extended family Brian and Zoe Baker of Las Vegas, NV; nieces: Malia (Tim) Collier, Audrey (Tony) Fleener, Hariette (Terry) Holmes, and Renee (Kendal) Downey; and nephews: Max (Cheri) Lucas, Bobby Randolph, and Laverne Bell.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and four sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday (06-03-2025) at the Star of Hope Chapel in Graceland Cemetery with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until service time. The burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
