Decatur-Raymond Arnold Kaler, Sr., 86, of Decatur, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010.
Services to celebrate Raymond's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Blankenship officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association and the Parkinson Foundation. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Raymond was born October 14, 1923 in Decatur the son of Ambrose and Hazel (Jones) Kaler. He worked at A.E. Staley retiring January 1, 1984 after forty-two years of service. He loved woodworking, tinkering in his garage and helping his children with their home projects. He loved spending time with children and grandchildren. He also loved camping and photography. He married Fraudonna 'Donna' Jane High January 31, 1943 in Decatur. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2005.
He leaves behind his daughters: Penny Smeltzer and husband Robert, Patricia Michaels and husband Arthur, and Karen Beard and husband Rodney all of Decatur, son: Raymond Kaler, Jr. of Decatur, grandchildren: Paula Burris, Pamela Card and husband Michael, Andy Michaels and wife Elaine, Kristen, Heather, Matthew, Kyle Beard, Raymond III and Ryan Kaler and wife Marianna, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in heaven with his parents, wife, one daughter of triplets, Paula Rae who died at birth, brothers: Harold, Robert, Eugene, and Paul, and sisters: Ruth Quigley, Anna Bobbitt, and Rose Stufflebean.
The family would like to thank all the family and friends for all their help and prayers at this time. Heartfelt thanks to Linda Proctor, Joann Page, and Dr. Gaurang Patel for their loving care.
